Morjoriee White, Miss Dillard University, celebrated her birthday with the Miss Dillard social in the West Wing of Kearny Hall, Nov. 4.
Jazz filled the room as the guests awaited the arrival of Miss Dillard and the Royal Court. White tablecloths, candles, blue balloons, white and blue programs and candy dressed each table.
Kendall Solomon, SGA vice-president, served as the master of ceremony and spoke of White’s many accomplishments during his introduction. White was once a cheerleader, member of student council, and has been on the Dean’s List since her freshman year. White, a public health major and biology minor from San Antonio, Texas, has goals of being a pediatrician for children cancer patients after attending both graduate and medical school.
She has received numerous community service awards in her hometown and in New Orleans. Her goals as Miss Dillard University include promoting students to volunteer through service learning and bringing an appreciation for the education Dillard provides.
The presentation of the Royal Court included class queens, attendants and Miss Dillard. All class officers were in attendance such as presidents, vice-presidents, secretaries, treasurers, parliamentarians, chaplains and on and off campus representatives.
Presentations commenced from organizations, clubs, associations, fraternities, sororities, class representatives and residence halls. Miss Dillard was showered with songs, poems, white and red roses, spa gift certificates, at home spa treatments, a birthday cake and a crystal topaz necklace and earring set.
Cynthia White, the mother of Miss Dillard, spoke of the originality of Morjoriee’s name and offered words of thanks, accomplishment and appreciation of her daughter and the people that surround White on Dillard’s campus. She spoke of her daughter’s quest for a small school so that Morjoriee could receive one on one attention in the classroom and develop relationships with her professors.
White also presented her gift to her daughter: The Morjoriee Ma’teese L. White Scholarship. This scholarship consists of $1,000 for a student toward college expenses. The student must maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be a full-time student at Dillard. The scholarship recipient must also have a community service project in the city of New Orleans and at Dillard University, approved by the Office of Career Services.
Miss Dillard was very appreciative for the love she received and said she was thankful for the nurturing environment that a small university like Dillard University gives to students.
