DU theatre’s 85th season to start today

NEW ORLEANS (October 25, 2019)—The Dillard University theatre department will open its 85th season today and run through the weekend with the vignette production “Saints and Sinners” in the Samuel DuBois Cook Hall Theatre.

The play, set for 7:30 p.m. tonight, also will be performed at the same time Saturday, with a matinee at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $5 for students with school ID; $10 for faculty, staff, senior citizens and non-Dillard students; and $15 for general admission.

Twenty-one students will perform 23 roles in the nine-act play that focus on themes such as revenge, grief and mortality, according to faculty member Ray Vrazel, who is director.

Actors and their roles include:

Act One: “Slightly Left of Paradise”

– Brianna Wyatt, a Houston sophomore, as Sabrina Copeland

– Morgan Ward, an Oakland, Calif., sophomore, as Lydia Turner

– Olivia Johnson, an Opelousas freshman, as Helen Morrisey

– Jonea Pledge, a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sophomore, as Barb Beldsoe

Act Two: “End of the Tunnel”

– Nia Garrett, a senior from Childersburg, Ala., as Elizabeth McCready

– Sterling Miller, a junior from Minneapolis, Minn., as Neal “Nona” McCready

– Mariah King-Barnett, a freshman from Houston, as Kris McCready

Act Three: “The Pickup”

– Kasey King, a New Orleans junior, as Geneva Lister

– Mekhi Hayes, a Baton Rouge junior, as Marty Dixon

– Atlantis Clay, a San Francisco freshman, as Claude Lister

Act Four: “976-LUST”

– Kayla Banks, a Houston senior, as Ann Stokely

– Walter Dixson, a New Orleans sophomore, as Brian Blevins

Act Five: “Spirited Behavior”

– Ninyaka White, a senior from Mobile, Ala., as Melinda

– Elvin Stewart, a junior from Houston, as Norbert (Nadine)

– Dyshaun Chandler, a senior from Mobile, Ala., as Agnes

Act Six: “Samaritan”

– Jada Williams, a New Orleans junior, as Betsy Ryder

– Alexandria Lofton, a Dallas junior, as Evelyn Putnam

Act Seven: “Trouble in the Works”

– Ryan Browder, a New Orleans sophomore, as Mr. Fibbs

– Zachary Paige-Westbrook, a Memphis, Tenn., senior, as Mr. Wills

Act Eight: “The Applicant”

– Shana Hill, a Kenner sophomore, as Ms. Piffs

– Duron Dunbar, a New Orleans sophomore, as Mr. Lamb

Act Nine: “The Interview: An X-Rated Conspiracy Theory”

– Clay as Interviewer

– Chandler as Mr. Jakes
