Homecoming to add music ‘Experience,’ Apollo talent showcase

NEW ORLEANS (October 31, 2019) – Homecoming 2019 will feature two new activities, including the “Drippin’ Bleu Experience,” which includes a concert featuring hip-hop artist Yella Beezy of Dallas, and “A Night at the Apollo: Dillard Edition,” according to student planners.

“Drippin’ Bleu” is the theme for this year’s Homecoming week, set for Nov. 3-9, according to Alexis Pigg and Alana Fortune, president and vice president of the Dillard Activities Board, or DAB.

Fortune said the DAB Executive Board collectively curated the theme for Homecoming.

“‘Drippin’ Bleu’ means we represent our school, we love our school and in whatever we do, we ‘drip bleu,’ ” she said.

Pigg said DAB’s main focus has been to shift away from a concert and create an experience.

“We will have multiple DJ sets and several New Orleans music artists,” Pigg said. “Our goal when creating the ‘Drippin’ Bleu Experience’ was to bring Homecoming week back home to New Orleans culture through its music.”

For both the new events, Pigg said their focus is to “shift the culture.”

“These are very engaging events for students either in the [talent] show or just simply watching the show,” she added.

Other activities will include fan favorites such as a silent disco party, midnight breakfast and the annual Homecoming game, parade, tailgate and neophyte presentation. Tickets went on sale Oct. 25 for the concert and Greek show at a discounted price for students, alumni, faculty, staff and members of National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations.

Events will kick off with a Kings and Queens Jazz Brunch on Sunday, Nov. 3, and conclude with the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s neophyte presentation Saturday, Nov. 9.

Students will receive free Homecoming T-shirts Tuesday, Nov. 5. More shirts will be sold during the tailgate Nov. 9 to students, alumni and other guests.

Fortune said, “[DAB] has put in numerous hours of work to create a week-long experience for students and alumni. We hope students will engage in the activities we have planned and appreciate the hard work and effort we have put in to make this happen.”
