NEW ORLEANS (March 29, 2019) – A senior biology major from Monroe was named “most improved” as she and 14 other Dillard students were recognized for completing the first ultimate spring break Biggest Loser Challenge hosted by Curvy Girlz on Feb. 28 in Georges Auditorium.

In addition to Hannah Freeman being named most improved, six others received awards of distinction from their student trainer, Ronnesha Wingo, a sophomore biology major from St. Louis, and eight others earned certificates of completion.

Curvy Girlz hosted a one-month biggest loser challenge to inspire students to work out, eat healthil and get their bodies ready for spring break. Eligible contestants included any student faculty or staff members who attended an interest meeting held in January.

Club President Camryn Jackson, a junior public health major of St. Louis, said, “The idea for the challenge started as a joke with my friends and we decided to make it happen.”All 15 participants who completed the process received a certificate and a $15 cash prize from the organization for their hard work, Jackson said.

Participants presented unique awards included:

  • Alicia Jackson, named “goofiest.”
  • Shana Hill, “most dedicated.”
  • Aria Lowery, “awesome attitude.”
  • Jordan Kane, “keto queen.”
  • Taylor Morris, “most determined.”
  • Aundrea Smith, “always on time.”

Completion awards were presented to: Jai Flowers, LaDrienna Howze,  Lauren Petry, Loleater Jefferson, Aria Townes, Alexis Morgan, D’Ivion Phoenix, and Felicia Hart.

Jackson said she participated in the experience to begin a change in her lifestyle while Morris said she participated to take her health into her own hands.

The process began with 24 participants. Participants were asked to complete Tuesday and Thursday evening workout sessions for four weeks. No specific diet was required, and participants shared health tips.

Trainer Wingo called working with the group “a blast” because “each day, they got better and worked hard.”

Morris said, “As a group, we encouraged and assisted one another through the physical challenge of the intense workouts,” Morris said. “This challenge encouraged me to clean up my diet and eat less junk food.”

Jackson said the group is undecided about making the challenge an annual event.
