DU Spring Fest to offer variety of events all week starting Sunday

Williams: Pandemic safety precautions, capacity limits will be in force

NEW ORLEANS (April 16, 2021) – Dillard University’s Spring Fest will offer seven days of activities on- and off-campus, including gospel, lots of food, student competitions and parties Sunday through next Saturday.

Capacity limits will be enforced because of the pandemic, according to the Dr. Courtney Williams, director for Student Engagement and Leadership. The numbers allowed will depend on the venue, he said.

He said the events will follow all of the current campus protocols regarding COVID-19 safety., including taking temperatures, requiring masks and social distancing.

Thirteen events have been planned by the Student Activities Board. Williams said volunteers are still being sought for events. To volunteer, email studentengagement@dillard.edu.

Events will include:

  • Sunday at 6:30 p.m.: Breath of Life Gospel Explosion, Lawless Chapel.
  • Monday: noon, “Issa Vibe,” a pep rally on Kearney Terrace, and 9 p.m. “Murda Valley,” inflatable laser tag in Henson Gym.
  • Tuesday: 11 a.m. “Valley Rumble,” a spinoff battle between DJs, along with performances by students, and 9 p.m., “Thru the Valley,” a trip to Airline Skate Center. (Registration required; sign up on Bleu Connect).
  • Wednesday: 8 p.m., “Fake the Funk,” a lip-sync competition featuring students impersonating popular artists in Dent, and 10 p.m., “Uncle Clifford’s Cookout,” a “midnight breakfast with a twist (it’s an old-fashioned barbecue), on Kabacoff Plaza.
  • Thursday: 11 a.m., “Secure the Bag,” a capture-the-flag game on The Oaks, and 9 p.m. “Silent Vibes,” a “silent disco” in Henson.
  • Friday: 2 p.m. Diamond Soiree on Kabacoff Plaza, and 10 p.m., “Neon,” paint and water balloon activity, at the duck pond.
  • Saturday: 3 p.m., “The Trap,” featuring student vendors, crawfish and more, and 10 p.m., “Paradise Bash,” a party on the tennis courts.
