NEW ORLEANS (Oct. 4, 2012) – A financial economics major from Shreveport and a psychology major from Chicago have been selected to lead the Freshman Class as president and vice president, respectively, according to results provided by the Student Government Association.

Information provided by SGA President Jakarah Porter and Parliamentarian Christopher Neal showed that Chad Hudson was elected outright in the primary on Sept. 17 with 54.6 percent of the vote, 101 votes, against Jacquelyn Fuller, who received 76 votes.

Tina Curry became vice president in the runoff election two days later against Simona Sanders, winning 49 to 45. Derek Alexander was eliminated in the primary with 44 votes.

Four officers were elected without opposition: Secretary LaSharron Purvis, a theater major from Jackson, Miss.; Chaplain Amber Fountaine-Pittman, an business and marketing major from Oakland, Calif.; On-Campus Representative Monae Howard, political science major from Pass Christian, Miss.; and Off-Campus Representative Glenis Scott of New Orleans majoring in nursing.

Treasurer Kadijah Knight, a sociology major from Pensacola, Fla., was officially unopposed after her opponent was disqualified.

Other new freshmen officers include:

• Parliamentarian: Jatori McDowell, a Shreveport computer science major. McDowell won in the primary with 65 percent of the vote (106) against Ayanna Woolfolk, who received 53.
• Historian: LaMika Williams, a Hayward, Calif., nursing major who received 116 votes in the primary to win outright against Cleveland Parker.
• Freshman Class Attendant: Malorie James, a Chicago business and marketing major. James won in the runoff election against Chatoria Pace in a vote of 75 to 50. Ashley Blackwell was eliminated in primary.
• Freshman Class Gentleman: Jared Green, an international business major from New Orleans.Green garnered 52.8 percent of the vote to win in the primary. He got 94 votes, compared with 68 for Kelsey King and 12 for Ngozi Taylor.
